State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) and Licensure Information

Albertus Magnus College is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA) which allows us to provide distance learning programs (both online and in the form of supervised field experience) and coursework to residents of states other than Connecticut.

The CT Office of Higher Education is approved by the New England Board of Higher Education to serve as the State Portal Entity under this agreement.

Albertus Magnus College is approved by the CT Office Higher Education to participate as a SARA institution.

To learn more about SARA, visit NC-SARA, NEBHE and the CT Office of Higher Education.

Are you a SARA student?

You are a SARA student if you enroll in distance education (including online programs) at a participating SARA institution of higher education in the State of Connecticut and resident inside the United States but outside of Connecticut and California.

Professional Licensure

Albertus Magnus College provides professional licensure information for programs that
may lead to professional licensure or certification in the United States. Participation in
the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA) does not grant reciprocity or
exempt Albertus Magnus College from state professional licensing requirements.

Several Albertus Magnus College academic programs have been designed to meet
accreditation and licensure/certification requirements in the State of Connecticut, and to
prepare students to apply for licensure or certification exams in Connecticut. Licensing
requirements in Connecticut may not satisfy requirements in other states or territories.
Students planning to seek licensure outside of Connecticut should consult the
appropriate state licensing board in their state of residence and review the NC-SARA
Professional Licensure Directory for guidance. California is currently not a member of
SARA, so additional state authorization or licensure requirements may apply to students
residing there.

Federal Disclosure Requirement

In accordance with federal regulations (34 CFR §668.43) and NC-SARA policy, Albertus
Magnus College discloses whether its programs meet or do not meet the educational
requirements for professional licensure or certification in any U.S. state or territory.
Albertus Magnus College provides direct written notification (including email) to students
when a program does not meet the educational requirements for licensure in the
student’s state of residence. Such notification is provided prior to enrollment or within 14
calendar days of the institution making the determination.

Student Location Determination

For licensure disclosure purposes, a student’s state of residence is determined based
on the address provided at the time of application and any subsequent updates
submitted to the College. Students are responsible for reporting changes in their
residence through the myAlbertus Self-Service portal, as such changes may affect
licensure eligibility. Questions should be directed to registrar@albertus.edu.

Relocation and Attestation

If a student resides in a state where a program does not meet educational licensure
requirements but intends to relocate to a state where the program does meet such
requirements, the student will be required to submit written attestation of their intent to
relocate prior to enrollment or continued participation in the program.

Undergraduate Licensure Programs

Undergraduate programs that may lead to professional licensure are designed to meet
educational requirements for licensure in specific states; however, licensure
requirements vary by state and may include additional conditions beyond degree
completion.

Students are advised of licensure requirements prior to enrollment, during academic
advising, and throughout program progression. Students should consult the appropriate
state licensing board to confirm eligibility requirements applicable to their state of
residence.

Graduate Licensure Programs

Graduate programs that lead to professional licensure require careful review of state-
specific licensure requirements, which may differ based on prior education, professional
experience, or supervised practice requirements.

Graduate students receive licensure disclosures prior to enrollment, during academic
advising and coursework preparation, and upon any material change in licensure
determinations. Students intending to seek licensure in a state other than Connecticut
are strongly encouraged to confirm licensure eligibility with the appropriate state
licensing board prior to enrollment.

Programs with Licensure Considerations

The following Albertus Magnus College programs currently fulfill professional licensure
requirements in Connecticut. For out-of-state licensure eligibility, students should
contact their program director and consult the NC-SARA Professional Licensure
Directory.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree is not designed, on its own, to fulfill the educational requirements for any professional credential, such as licenses for certified public accountants. Students interested in licensure as a public certified accountant should consult the information from the M.S. Accounting program.

One important guideline is that reciprocity is always easier if a student completes the certification requirements and obtains the teaching credential in the state where they completed the program requirements.

Note: Programs listed above are Connecticut-specific. State requirements for licensure
outside of Connecticut may vary, and additional coursework, supervised practice,
exams, or other requirements may be necessary.

Albertus Magnus College makes no representations regarding whether a particular
program will qualify a graduate for employment in any specific career position.

Student Responsibility

Completion of a program does not guarantee licensure, certification, or employment in
any state. Students are responsible for:

  • Confirming eligibility with the licensing board in their state of residence
  • Reviewing additional state-specific requirements, including supervision hours,
professional experience, exams, or coursework beyond degree requirements

Employers may also consider factors such as criminal background, U.S. citizenship,
state residency, physical and psychological health, age, and military discharge status.
Certain criminal convictions or conduct may prevent or limit licensure eligibility or
employment. Some employers may require drug screening.

Consult the NC-SARA Professional Licensure Directory for additional guidance.

Annual Updates

Albertus Magnus College makes every effort to ensure information about educational requirements for licensure or certification is current. Licensure information is reviewed and updated annually (last updated January 2026).

Institutional Contact

For questions regarding professional licensure, program eligibility, or state authorization contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@albertus.edu or 203-773-8514.

Complaint Resolution

Albertus Magnus College is required by the United States Department of Education to provide all prospective and current out-of-state students with contact information for the appropriate complaint agency in their home state. Students are encouraged to resolve complaints internally.

Albertus Magnus College is committed to the appropriate resolution of complaints and has policies and procedures for addressing grade appeals, faculty and non-faculty grievances, student grievances, academic dishonesty, sexual harassment, and misconduct. These policies may be found in the relevant student, faculty, employee handbooks, or on the student grievance page.

For students who have exhausted all institutional grievance procedures, the following accrediting and state agencies are available to handle complaints (note that these agencies will not consider complaints until all institutional grievance procedures have been followed):
