Community Initiatives
Laudato Si’ Action Platform
In October 2021, Albertus Magnus President Marc Camille signed a commitment for Albertus
Magnus to join the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, an international initiative sponsored
by the Vatican to guide Catholic institutions in organizing action plans centered
on sustainability.
As part of this initiative, the Eckhart Center sponsors programs about environmental
justice, organizes projects to make Albertus a more sustainable campus, and partners
with community organizations in Greater New Haven on local ecological initiatives.
Supporting Local Religious Communities
We collaborate with local religious communities on faith formation and social justice initiatives. For example, we host interfaith gatherings of clergy to discuss meeting today's challenges in ministry. We also foster community dialogue around issues of contemplation, action, justice, and peace.
Building Dominican Culture on Campus
One of our aims is to cultivate a culture of contemplation and action on campus. We collaborate with faculty to incorporate values of justice and peace, Catholic Social Teaching, and Dominican spirituality into students’ learning experiences.
In Fall 2023, we introduced the Meister Eckhart Community Garden on campus. This outdoor setting is open to Albertus and local community members for prayer, reflection, artistic expression, and dialogue.
