A Week of Appreciation and Care for Our Common Home

Albertus Magnus College is a proud member of the Laudato Si' Action Platform, an international effort inspired by the teachings of Pope Francis to seek a more sustainable and just world. From April 15-22, 2024, our Laudato Si' Action Team and other campus groups will organize events around caring for the earth and our communities.

This year will feature a variety of events, ranging from service opportunities outdoors to
ecological craft projects to educational gatherings about building a greener world.

 

Monday, April 15:

2:30-3:30pm: Collaging for Peace (Campus Center Lounge)

Show your creativity by making collages that promote peace and sustainability. Sponsored by CAB.

The Falcon Bottle Battle begins!

Residence halls will compete to see who can recycle the most cans and bottles. Sponsored by Student Services.

Tuesday, April 16, 12:30-1pm: Breakwater Poetry Reading (Contemplative Garden, or the McNamara Room if it rains)

Enjoy nature poetry written and read by Albertus students.

2:30-3:30pm: Community Outreach - DIY Dog Toys (Campus Center Lounge)

Create dog toys from recycled materials. Sponsored by SGA.

5:30-6:45pm: Dinner Panel: Inspired to Build a Greener World

(Behan Community Room). Professionals in fields related to sustainability share their
experiences about their career paths. Panelists will include:

  • Jonathon Savage, Executive Director of Gather New Haven.
  • Meredith Barges, Co-Chair and Co-Founder of Lights Out Connecticut
  • Kelby Anderson, Researcher and PhD Student at Yale
  • Greg Ledovsky or Johnny Brehon, Co-Owner of Devil's Gear Bike Shop

A free dinner will be served. RSVP

(Meet at Public Safety). All students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to a bike ride from Albertus and down the Farmington Canal Train to MiKro Brewery led by Dr. Ross Edwards. Lunch at MiKro is included. RSVP

11am-2pm: Wellness Rock Painting (Bree Commons)

Join Health and Wellness Services in a contemplative rock painting activity to reflect on your connection with nature.

3:30-5pm: Earth Day Tree Planting (Winchester & Goodrich Streets)
