Special Tributes, Salutes, and Collections to Pioneering Women, Veterans, and the Food Insecure
New Haven, Conn., November 10, 2022 – Albertus Magnus College celebrates “Albert Week” November 14-18. The tribute honors St. Albert the Great, the patron of the College, and promotes the Dominican Pillars of Study, Prayer, Community, and Service. All week:
Free coffee for Veterans at the Coffee Bar in Bree Common.
Collecting non-perishable food items at Bree Common and Rosary Hall. Donations will benefit Centro San Jose and the New Haven Pride Center Food Pantry.
Monday, November 14:
12:15 pm: The annual scarfing of Albert and sharing prayers for the community at the Statue of Albert, Tagliatela Center.
3:30 pm: St. Albert the Great Lecture: “Pioneering Women of the Past, Innovators Shaping the Future.” Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Dominican Women in the United States. Presented by Sr. Joan Scanlon, O.P. in the Behan Community Room, Hubert Campus Center.
Tuesday, November 15:
3:00 pm: Faculty and Staff Appreciation Ceremony, highlighting the Pillars of Study and Service to our students. Milestones being marked this year: Leon Battista, lecturer in business and management, 25 years; Alvida Lewis, of food services vendor Chartwells, 30 years; and Robert Hubbard, former associate professor and current lecturer, 30 years. The celebration will take place in the DeDominicis Dining Hall, Hubert Campus Center.
Wednesday, November 16:
12:15 pm: Planting of the Jonquil Bulbs. A cousin of the Daffodil, the Jonquil is one of the first flowers to welcome spring. It is a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and yes, resurrection. It has a historical connection to the Dominican Sisters in St. Catharine, Kentucky. After a fire destroyed the Motherhouse in 1904, the Jonquils that the Sisters had planted continued to bloom. And they continue to bloom to this day. This annual planting will take place outside Sansbury Hall and Siena Hall.
12:30 pm: Entrepreneurship Pop-up Event will showcase student ideas and products at the Hubert Campus Center.
3:00 pm: Sky Hunters in Flight. The College mascot, a falcon, will visit Frankie the Falcon, along with other Sky Hunters at the Shea Softball Complex.
3:30 pm: Newhallville Neighborhood Pocket Park Clean-up will take place at Spruel Space on Shephard Street to give back to our community and be grateful to Mother Nature.
Thursday, November 17:
3:00 pm: Campus Cleanup meetup at the Athletic Center to prepare the grounds for spring.
4:30 pm: Community Garden Cleanup near Sansbury Hall, also to prepare the grounds for spring.
