Albertus Magnus College Soars in Innovative New York Times College Rankings Tool

Accolades in New England and Nationally for Academics, Athletics, Career Earnings, Diversity, and Economic Mobility

New Haven, Conn., April 20, 2023 – In recent years, Albertus Magnus College has achieved its share of external accolades from college rankings such as U.S. News, Money, and Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, affirming the growing awareness of the College and the benefits of its time-tested, liberal arts and values-based education.  In a unique new approach to assembling meaningful college rankings, The New York Times just released its Build Your Own College Rankings, in which Albertus was among only 883 institutions included, of the more than 4,000 nationwide, based on minimum enrollment size and graduation rate thresholds.  The New York Times’ premise for the new rankings tool was that most existing college rankings push students toward an assumed single best option, rather than enabling the selection of priority factors for a student’s best-fit college.  In the new rankings, analyses of publicly available data were completed on student-priority categories such as Academics, Athletics, Campus Safety, Economic Diversity, Economic Mobility, High Earnings, Low Net Price, Low Sticker Price, Party Scene, and Racial Diversity.

Already New England’s most racially and ethnically diverse Catholic college, Albertus in the new rankings, when upward economic mobility is prioritized, is first among the 88 New England colleges and universities that were ranked.  When multiple factors such as Academics, Athletics, Economic Diversity, Economic Mobility, High Earnings, and Racial Diversity are prioritized, Albertus Magnus College rates #3 in New England and in the top 6% nationally.

“I’ve spent most of my 34-year higher education career working in the world of college admissions, and The New York Times’ innovative approach to college rankings, putting priority factors in the hands of students, is very much student-centered,” said Albertus President Dr. Marc M. Camille.  “Seeing The New York Times’ rankings recognize Albertus Magnus College among New England’s and the nation’s best colleges, for its commitments and strengths in academics, athletics, career earnings, diversity, and upward economic mobility is external affirmation of the College’s excellence and value.  I’m proud to join my dedicated faculty and staff colleagues in working for a College that defines prestige by these measures and the growth and outcomes of our students and alumni.”

Founded in 1925, Albertus is a coeducational Catholic College in the Dominican tradition. Albertus' values- and liberal arts-based education is recognized by external rankings such as US News & World Report, Money, and The New York Times, and has been named a Top 10 Military Friendly School. Among its graduate offerings is the State of Connecticut's only Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling program, and it is just one of three schools to offer a Master of Science in Human Services. In 2025-26, Albertus is celebrating its historic 100th Anniversary and completing implementation of the Albertus 2025: Lighting the Way to a Second Century strategic plan, with a bold vision to "be a destination liberal arts-based college, distinguished in its interdisciplinary and experiential approach to education, rooted in Dominican values, that prepares students for lifelong civic engagement and success."
