Albertus Magnus College Receives Another $1 Million+ in Grants

State and Private Grants Support Albertus’ Planned Nursing Program and Interdisciplinary Studies

New Haven, Conn., March 1, 2023 Albertus Magnus College is honored to once again be the recipient of more than one million dollars in grant money to ensure that our graduates are career ready in their chosen field – something that is crucial at a time when employers need skilled workers with cutting edge technique and technology know-how plus the critical thinking skills to solve complex issues and clearly communicate those findings to others.

Albertus is being awarded $805,000 over three years from Connecticut Health Horizons which was launched last year to increase opportunities for aspiring nurses and social workers.  Albertus will utilize these funds to jumpstart its planned Nursing major in the 2024-2025 academic year.  The CT Health Horizons grant would provide funding for nursing faculty salaries, benefits, and their continuing education.

The College is also the $248,000 grantee of the Davis Educational Foundation, established by Stanton and Elisabeth Davis after Mr. Davis’ retirement as chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc.  The monies are for providing pathways for students to apply their values-based liberal arts education to think-through and resolve real world challenges and situations.  Since 2010, The Davis Education Foundation has awarded Albertus with more than $500,000 in grants to help graduates achieve their professional goals and have a positive impact on employers and in their communities.  This latest honor recognizes the request entitled Invitation to Inquiry: General Education Interdisciplinary Pathways.  The thrust of this program is how a practical liberal arts education allows Albertus students to pursue thematic pathways where seemingly disparate disciplines are revealed to be interconnected.  This opportunity is instilled on the part of our faculty’s holistic approach to critical thinking.

“Receiving these grants will strengthen the College’s already outstanding ability to provide students with real-world experiences that prepare them, not only for the jobs of today, but fill the on-going needs of tomorrow,” said Albertus Magnus College Vice President for Advancement Mary Young ’91.  “Together, these grants will help us positively influence the State’s nursing workforce shortage as well as fill the employment void in so many fields that require the well-roundedness of a liberal arts degree that gives graduates the transitional skills necessary to adapt and apply to an array of complex issues.”
