Albertus Magnus College President Named to NCAA DIII Presidents Council

Dr. Marc M. Camille Serving Four-Year Appointment in National Leadership Role

New Haven, Conn., January 25, 2023 Albertus Magnus College President Dr. Marc M. Camille has been elected to serve on the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division III Presidents Council, for a four-year term beginning in January 2023.

The Presidents Council is the highest governing body in NCAA Division III and includes among its responsibilities the establishment and oversight of Division III policies, divisional strategic planning, sponsoring legislation, and advocacy to the NCAA Board of Governors on behalf of Division III.  The 20-member body consists of eighteen college presidents/chancellors and two student-athletes, with representation divided geographically across the nation.  In his role on the Council, Dr. Camille will represent Albertus Magnus and the College’s home athletic conference, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Previously Dr. Camille served on the NCAA Division III Presidents Advisory Group.

“I’m humbled and honored to serve on the NCAA Division III Presidents Council, advocating for the true student-athlete model,” stated Dr. Camille.  “In representing Division III student-athletes at Albertus, the GNAC, and nationally, I look forward to working with fellow Council members.  Division III is the largest division within the NCAA, representing 40% of all member institutions and nearly the same percentage of all student-athletes.  At Albertus, the student-athletes on our 17 NCAA teams strive for excellence in competition, in the classroom, and in the community.  They are a source of pride for our community, and I’m proud to represent them in this new leadership role.”

Now in his sixth year serving as Albertus President, Dr. Camille’s presidency has seen Albertus Magnus launch an ambitious growth agenda.   Since his arrival, applications for the first-year class have increased to new record totals and the College’s traditional undergraduate enrollment is up 40%, to an all-time high total of more than 600 students.  Just three years out from its 100th Anniversary Year in 2025, the College is implementing a bold new strategic plan, Albertus 2025: Lighting the Way to a Second Century, which challenges the Albertus community to achieve four strategic priorities: to Lead in Academic Innovation; to Optimize the Student Experience; to Live the Albertus Story; and to Forge Long-term Institutional Vitality.

In addition to the NCAA Division III Presidents Council, Dr. Camille’s service includes chairing the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Leadership Council and serving as a Board and Executive Committee member for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges (CCIC).
