Albertus Magnus College to Add Track and Field For 2027-28 Academic Year
New Haven, Conn., May 13, 2026 – Albertus Magnus College is excited to announce the addition of four new teams for women’s and men’s indoor and outdoor track and field beginning with the 2027-28 academic year. These teams will complement the 17 NCAA Division III teams that the College currently offers.
A national search for a head coach will begin immediately to begin building the requisite rosters and laying the groundwork for the inaugural season.
"Dating to its founding in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, Albertus Magnus College has provided a holistic, values-based education for a century. As we proudly enter our second century of excellence, the launch of women’s and men’s indoor and outdoor track and field marks a significant milestone in our growth and our enduring commitment to the student experience," said Albertus Vice President for Enrollment Management, Brian Fernandes. "NCAA Division III athletics are integral to the success of our students, fostering a model where Falcons compete just as rigorously in the classroom as they do in the arena. These new programs represent more than just athletic expansion; they offer a platform for our students to develop the leadership and discipline that define an Albertus graduate. I look forward to seeing our track and field student-athletes mirror the success of their peers and contributing to our community through service and competing for championships, all while earning the degrees that will empower their futures."
All four track and field programs will be eligible to compete in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships. There are currently six women’s programs competing in both sports – Emmanuel, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, Regis, Simmons, Colby-Sawyer and Lasell, and five men’s programs - Emmanuel, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, Regis, Colby-Sawyer and Lasell.
"As we continue to evaluate strategic growth enrollment at Albertus Magnus College, the addition of track and field aligns perfectly with our undergraduate applicant pool and interest,” said Albertus Director of Athletics, Michael Kobylanski. “The city of New Haven and the state of Connecticut have a long history of producing accomplished track and field standouts. We believe that the addition of these sports will provide an opportunity for prospective student-athletes seeking a collegiate athletic experience. Furthermore, the ability to participate in the GNAC Championships provides these student-athletes with immediate access to championship competition.”
