Albertus Magnus College Recognized Again in US News & World Report Rankings
College Earns Accolades for Upward Social Mobility & Undergraduate Teaching
New Haven, Conn., September 18, 2023 –Albertus Magnus College has once again been recognized by US News & World Report in its 2023-2024 “Best Colleges” rankings. As New England’s most diverse Catholic college, Albertus received special recognition in the area of social mobility and undergraduate teaching.
- Top Performer on Social Mobility among schools in Regional Universities North: This category highlights schools for their success in graduating low-income students
who received Federal Pell Grants. Albertus has earned this distinction for four consecutive
years and jumped 23 spots to #32, placing the College in the 80th percentile.
- Best Undergraduate Teaching among schools in Regional Universities North: According to US News, this ranking focuses on schools whose faculty and administrators are committed to teaching undergraduate students in a high-quality manner. Survey results show Albertus is one of only 40 of the 166 ranked schools to earn this designation.
Affirming its continued commitment to education access and opportunity, Albertus also showed strong performance in regards to the graduation rate for its Federal Pell Grant recipients. For the most recent cohort reported to US News (students who entered in Fall 2016), the percentage of the College’s Pell recipients earning a bachelor’s degree within six years was nearly identical to the rate for non-Pell students who graduated. Albertus’ Pell grad rate performance is particularly notable given that nearly 59% of all students in the Fall 2016 cohort were Pell eligible.
The US News recognition for Albertus comes on the heels of strong showings in other recent national rankings. In the New York Times’ inaugural “Build Your Own College Rankings,” the College was #1 among all schools in the six-state New England region for economic diversity and economic mobility, and in the top 8% of New England schools for racial diversity. In Money’s “Best Colleges in America” list for 2023, Albertus soared in three categories: quality of education, affordability, and outcomes, including alumni earnings.
“I spent nearly three decades working in college admissions before being elected President at Albertus in 2017 and over time, there has been understandable scrutiny regarding the value of the various college rankings,” stated Albertus President Marc M. Camille, Ed.D. “College rankings can serve as one source of information for potential college students and their families, but without doubt, they alone simply cannot determine if a particular college is the best fit for an individual student. What pleases me about these latest US News rankings and where Albertus was recognized, I am delighted to see our mission-related successes in educating aspiring students, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Outcomes, access to education, and diversity in all of its wonderful forms are among the many reasons I’m proud to serve with our dedicated faculty and staff at Albertus.”
