CNA Program

New Haven, Conn., November 6, 2025 Albertus Magnus College is pleased to announce it has been awarded a grant by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and the State of Connecticut Office of Workforce Strategy, to jumpstart a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program — providing a gateway to careers in healthcare to meet the needs of the region. This project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number ED22HDQ3070186, awarded to the State of Connecticut Office of Workforce Strategy by the US Economic Development Administration. Through The Good Jobs Challenge, this program is being offered free of charge to its participants. Albertus will begin enrollment in the month of November with courses starting on January 12, 2026. Applicants must be 18-years-old and commit to full-time job placement upon certification.

Building a career of care, Albertus’ CNA Training program is an intensive eight-week, 110-hour course designed to fit the busy life of adult learners — all while preparing them to deliver compassionate and competent care to individuals as part of meaningful work in healthcare. They’ll gain 70 hours of classroom instruction plus 40 hours of supervised clinical practice — meeting Connecticut’s state requirements in preparation for the state certification exam. As a student at Albertus, participants will find personal support from experienced faculty who believe in student success.

Founded by the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 1925, and celebrating its Centennial Year, Albertus is guided by the Four Dominican Pillars of Study, Prayer, Community, and Service. With its campus uniquely situated at the intersection of the City of New Haven and the Town of Hamden, Albertus seeks to be a source of inclusive skillset and community building through fulfilling its educational mission. The College will use the funds to start-up this important program which will only enhance its LPN to BSN and BSN degree offerings in its hands-on, state-of-the-art campus facility.

This collaborative CNA program embodies Albertus Magnus College's Dominican mission to serve the community, directly addressing the urgent healthcare workforce needs in the region,” said Albertus Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Dr. Rosa E. Rivera-Hainaj. “By partnering with the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and leveraging the strategic goals of the State of CT Office of Workforce Strategy, we are creating a vital pathway to family-sustaining careers, ensuring our graduates are prepared to contribute immediately to regional economic growth and the well-being of Greater New Haven.”
