Albertus Magnus College Mourns the Loss of Alumna Lillian Germain, ‘57
Proud Alumna and Spouse of Board of Trustee Member
The Albertus Magnus College community is mourning the loss of Lillian Adley Germain, ’57. The wife of Albertus Board of Trustee member Joseph P. Germain, Jr., Lillian was 85. A constant at
Albertus events, Lillian’s love of her alma mater and fond memories of her college experience served as inspiration for her husband joining the College’s Board, of which he has dedicated 17 years of service.
“We have lost a passionate alumna and member of the Albertus family, one whose enthusiasm for the College was ever- present at countless events over the years,” said Albertus President Marc M. Camille, Ed.D.
“Lillian clearly cherished her time at Albertus. She often wrote and spoke about how Albertus gave her a respect and love of integrity and truth. She reflected upon her time here as carefree days. And even though many of her classmates and teachers are gone, she prayed for them as they remained alive in her heart. Lillian will remain alive in ours,” said Vice President for Advancement Mary Young, ’91.
Lillian Marguerite Adley Germain was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late James and Lillian Adley. After graduating from Albertus with high honors, she matriculated at UCONN Law School before starting her teaching career. She earned a Master’s in Education from Fairfield University and her Sixth Year from Southern Connecticut State University.
For more than 40 years, she influenced generations of students and young educators, was named Teacher of Year, and held many administrative positions while serving the State of Connecticut. Germain was on the President’s Circle at Fairfield University and was active in alumni groups – including at Albertus.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 11:55 a.m., directly in the Read Memorial Chapel at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and concerns, all other funeral services will be private. A memorial mass celebrating her life will be scheduled for a later date.
