Albertus Magnus College Issues Statement on Coronavirus

Spring Break Extended; Classes to Resume Online Until March 29

With a continued focus on promoting the health and well-being of the College’s students, faculty, and staff, Albertus Magnus College President Dr. Marc M. Camille issued a message to the Albertus community today that the College is joining a growing number of educational institutions nationwide with actions and restrictions to help deter the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  At the time of this message, Albertus is not aware of any member of its community having tested positive or being exposed to the virus.

The College’s current Spring Break will be extended for one additional week to allow for continued deep cleaning and sanitizing of campus facilities.  Instead of classes resuming on Monday, March 16, they will resume on Monday, March 23.  The only exception would be for Professional and Graduate Studies (PGS) students, which will begin as scheduled on March 16.  All PGS courses on March 16 and all other courses on March 23, will be offered online-only through at least Sunday, March 29.

During the extended Spring Break week, the residence halls at the College will remain closed and students will not be allowed to move back in until Sunday, March 22.  Because all classes will be delivered online at least until March 29, any of the approximately 300 residential students who prefer to stay at their permanent residence rather than return to campus on March 22, will be permitted to do so and may return to their residence hall at a future date.

To support efforts to avoid spreading the virus, numerous College events scheduled through March 29 are being postponed or canceled.  A listing of events and their status may be found on the Albertus Coronavirus webpage.

College employees will continue to report to work and campus facilities remain open for Albertus students, faculty, and staff.

“COVID-19 is challenging our country’s preparedness and resilience.  We will be diligent in monitoring closely the latest developments associated with the virus. My hope is we will be able to resume a more normal spring semester schedule in April,” said Dr. Camille in his statement.  “I am fully aware that the decisions being made will be disruptive and will require effort and sacrifice.  In my time serving as president, I have come to admire the unbreakable strength of our community and its commitment to mission.  I know that as a community, we will stay strong and true as we move through these challenging times.  Please know that now and in the days ahead, you and those you love are in my thoughts and prayers.”

Among its graduate offerings is the State of Connecticut's only Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling program, and it is just one of three schools to offer a Master of Science in Human Services. In 2025-26, Albertus is celebrating its historic 100th Anniversary and completing implementation of the Albertus 2025: Lighting the Way to a Second Century strategic plan, with a bold vision to "be a destination liberal arts-based college, distinguished in its interdisciplinary and experiential approach to education, rooted in Dominican values, that prepares students for lifelong civic engagement and success."
