Albertus Magnus College Announces Spring 2021 Semester Start Date

January 25 New Date; Three-Week Intersession Course Offered

Albertus Magnus College will join several colleges and universities in the region and across the country and delay the spring 2021 semester as a precaution in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The new start date is Monday, January 25. In addition, Albertus is offering a three-week intersession beginning January 4, 2021.

In a letter to students, Vice President for Academic Affairs Sean P. O’Connell, Ph.D., writes in part:

I am pleased to announce that within our spring 2021 semester calendar, we will be offering a three-week intersession that will run from Monday, January 4, 2021 through Friday, January 22, 2021; the remainder of the spring term, including planned in-person courses, will begin on Monday, January 25, 2021 and will end as currently scheduled on May 10, 2021.

Courses offered during the intersession will be held online with synchronous (real-time) instruction. For those of you who are seeking additional credits to meet your timeline for graduation, this is an opportunity to earn credits at no additional

cost. Those of you who have significant outside commitments in the winter/spring may find it useful to have this greater flexibility in building your schedules. The spring 2021 intersession offers you several options:

  • Take an intersession course (3 credits) with a reduced course load (12 credits) for the remainder of the spring semester;
  • Take an intersession course (3 credits) and the regular course load (15 credits) for the remainder of the spring semester;
  • Forego the free intersession course (3 credits) and take the regular course load (15 credits) for the remainder of the spring

As Albertus did for the current fall semester, modifications to the traditional holiday/break schedule will be made for the spring. The spring 2021 semester will not include a spring break or Presidents’ Day and Holy Thursday holidays. The College will still close for Good Friday. However, several days will be built into the schedule during mid-week when classes will be suspended to provide some interesting alternative programming, such as a “self-care” day to rest and catch up on work, a teach-in for Martin Luther King Day, and Experiential Learning Day. More details will be shared as they become finalized.

“I continue to be inspired by how well you, the faculty, and the staff have worked together to support our community and pursue our common educational goals during this challenging time. In this 95th Anniversary year for Albertus, we are demonstrating the resolve and purpose that have been part of the College’s DNA since its inception,” said Dr. O’Connell.
