In 2003, Eire, the T. Lawrason Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies
at Yale University, received the National Book Award in nonfiction for his memoir
“Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy.” The book has been translated
into 13 languages, but is banned in Cuba, where Eire is considered an enemy of the
state.
