The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE)

The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) at Albertus Magnus College promotes a culture of teaching, learning and scholarship that is humanistically enlarging and practical in its application. The CTLE provides faculty development and academic support services that focus on increasing student success, enhancing classroom learning through the use of high-impact practices, and providing opportunities for faculty and students to collaborate in the search for truth and academic excellence.

Students meet one-on-one with an academic advisor for individualized conversations and planning focusing on their academic journey.

The Career Center offers personal consultations, group workshops and programs to teach self-discovery and career readiness skills.

The Practicum &amp Internship Program provides practical hands-on experiences that reinforce academic coursework and expand classroom learning in preparation for meaningful careers.

Service learning gives students an opportunity to practice civic engagement and social responsibility as they develop workforce and community leadership skills.

Study abroad helps students develop skills a classroom setting might never provide. Students can explore the world, learn a new language and get to know another culture first-hand.

Students work closely with faculty in the classroom, in the lab and in the field on scholarly activities and research projects. Students may present with faculty at conferences and poster sessions.

The Institutional Research Board oversees research projects to ensure that research with human subjects is conducted ethically and participation is voluntary.

Students receive training in building an ePortfolio that showcases the knowledge and skills they develop through their education at Albertus.

The Writing and Math Centers provide support in writing and math in a warm, friendly atmosphere. ePortfolio and technology tutoring are available, too. Motivated students have opportunities for paid tutoring positions.

Synchronous and asynchronous instruction with a trained tutor through eTutoring is available for accounting, math, calculus, biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, research methods, and writing across the curriculum.

In the Aquinas Scholars Program, highly motivated, self-directed students in all disciplines can pursue self-designed projects as part of their college curriculum.

Students may apply to follow a program in Honors which involves the development of individual projects designed in consultation with faculty mentors in special courses designated each semester as Honors courses.

The Writing Program provides ongoing assistance throughout the writing process to help students develop as mature writers and to encourage them to view writing as a means of learning and discovering.

The library staff offers one-on-one student orientation and classroom instruction in information literacy. This instruction helps students evaluate sources, present and use information ethically and develop critical thinking skills.

The Academic Development Center assists students with special needs in achieving academic success appropriate to educated persons. It complements the mission of the College.

The services the CTLE offers are varied, from providing unique opportunities for junior and senior level students who are outstanding researches preparing for graduate school to students just starting out in college interested in perfecting their skills in reading, writing, numeracy, and critical thinking.

The philosophy of the CTLE is that learning is a lifelong endeavor. Continual practice and feedback are essential if we are to grow as readers, writers, and critical and creative thinkers. The best method of developing good study habits and improving academic skills is to know one's own strengths and learning style.

The staff at the CTLE strives to bring your strengths to light, and to provide opportunities for you to engage in co-curricular endeavors that will enable you to grow personally and professionally!
