| Overview |
The Veteran Advisor will be responsible for acting as a contact person for veterans
and/or dependents of veterans using veteran benefits while attending Albertus Magnus
College. He/she will direct and supervise the Student Veterans of America (SVA) meeting
and projects; be responsible for registering academically qualified student veterans
in academic programs within the Division of Professional and Graduate Studies. Play
a key role on the Retention Committee dealing with topics that directly affect the
college experience of veterans or veteran dependents on the Albertus Magnus College
Campus. Will also serve as the School’s Secondary Certifying Official for veteran
students.

| Essential Functions |
Academic Advising Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with new and returning students (primarily veterans) to develop and monitor educational
plans and goals.
- Conduct one-on-one orientations with new students to go over the college portal, e-learning,
and review policies and procedures.
- Provide students with information about resources to support them academically and
personally
- Assist faculty advisors with questions and help process registration forms.
- Serve as a liaison between the business, registrar, and financial aid offices.
- Serve on the Retention/At-Risk committee.
School Certifying Official Duties:
- Reviews student files for missing or incorrectly completed documentation and communicates
those deficiencies with students in order to accurately process education benefits.
- Ensures that successful completion of all veteran documents are met to maintain College
eligibility, certifying enrollment and eligibility of current students, supplying
reports regarding our student veterans and working with the Veteran's Administration
to resolve problems.
- Ensures that business practices, including Student Information Systems, are optimized
to ensure efficient and accurate processing of benefits.
- Maintains adequate records to show progress of each veteran or eligible person. Ensures
on a term-by-term basis that the student is enrolling in only those courses that meet
the requirements of their specific program.
- Serves as VA liaison with Financial Aid, Business Office, Division of Professional
and Graduate Studies, Student Services, Instructional Technology Services and other
offices. Coordinates monthly meetings with these offices to ensure veterans are being
served to the best of our ability.

| Education |
- Bachelor’s Degree required;
- Master’s Degree Preferred.

| Knowledge | Skills | Abilities |
- Prior or current service in the United States Armed Forces;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, utilizing correct grammar;
- Experience with standard Word, Excel, calendar and email programs;
- Ability to work autonomously and confidentially;
- Ability to set/attain goals and follow through with projects;
- Two or more years’ experience serving a veteran or military population;
- Experience with CRM systems/recruitment programs;
- Knowledge of Navigate preferred.

| Special Work Schedule Requirements |
Evening and some weekend hours required.
