Overview

The Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling (MAATC) Program at Albertus Magnus College is currently accepting applications in our Part-Time Faculty applicant pool.  Positions are available throughout the academic year, including summer term.  

At this time, the MAATC Program is seeking to hire part-time faculty for the following course for the Summer 2022 Semester which runs from Tuesday, May 31 – Thursday, July 21

This course begins on June 1, 2022

Art Therapy in a Multicultural World - On Ground and Online Synchronous Hybrid and 1 Saturday 

Seven Wednesdays – 4:00pm – 8:20pm - and one Saturday, June 25 10:00am – 12:20pm

This course provides an exploration of the socio-cultural influences on the creative expressions of major cultural groups in the United States and the student’s personal identity as it impacts the therapeutic relationship.  Emphasis will be on understanding the mediating role of diversity in the development of the consulting relations, modes of artistic expression, and the development of multicultural competencies. Students will gain knowledge of various client populations in the context of diverse socioeconomics, race, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, ageism, and other groups that have been historically underrepresented and discriminated against.  The instructor will coordinate reading, experiential exercise and guest lectures to illuminate the importance of multicultural awareness and competency in the practice of art therapy.

Primary Responsibilities

Part-time faculty are expected to: 

  • Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively. 
  • Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles. 
  • Provide input to the director regarding student progress.
  • Keep posted office hours. 
  • Timely submission of record keeping (attendance, grades, supply orders, and textbook orders). 
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development such as participation in professional conferences and workshops, professional organizations, research projects, publication of academic work, community outreach projects, and advocacy related statewide committees or organizations. 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others. 
  • Perform other duties as outlined within the teaching agreement.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or Doctorate (preferred) in Art Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, or a related field. 
  • Evidence of continuing scholarly work and research agenda
  • At least one year of related teaching experience, preferably in a graduate or undergraduate art therapy program
  • Must have active ATR-BC credential (Registered and Board-Certified Art Therapist, or currently eligible for BC). CT-LPC and CLAT in addition also preferred.
  • Active participation in local, state, national, and/or international professional organizations
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, commitment to teaching in a rigorous academic and collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of groups historically underrepresented, and groups who may have experienced discrimination
  • Exemplify the scholar-practitioner training model in terms of curriculum design and/or delivery
  • Proficiency to evaluate the program’s resources and students’ skills
  • Have a strong command of presentation software(s) and technology (Zoom ®, PowerPoint ®, and student online learning platforms).
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and professional staff 
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and visioning acumen 

Preference will be given to candidates who possess:

Bi- or multi-lingual therapy skills

Lived or work experience serving the following communities:


  • Black/African American, LatinX, Asian, Muslim, Indigenous/Native Americans, Muslims, and other underrepresented ethnic minority groups
  • Immigrants and the undocumented
  • LGBTQIA
  • Non-binary gender identity
  • Eating disorders and body positivity

Applications received after this date will be considered for any openings in the 2022/23 academic year and for the general part-time faculty pool.

Please note that academic course schedules fluctuate each semester and selected part-time faculty will work with the Program Director and Administrative Assistant or Chairs to determine a schedule. Courses are not guaranteed.
