Essential Functions
  • Coordinates and directs candidates’ initial summer clinical practice:  literacy tutorial instruction of dyslexic students using the Japanese Lesson Study protocol
  • Advises all candidates in monthly advisement meetings, and by phone, email, and in person during academic year
  • Facilitates and attends best practices seminars and assesses research-based papers
  • Devises, guides, and supervises candidates’ capstone projects that include reviewing relevant research, planning, and presenting one-day professional development workshops for first and second summer cohorts and invited guests
  • Plans yearly colloquium for continuing education of current and past cohorts
  • With the Director of Education Programs coordinates in planning and facilitating the recruitment, application review, interview process, and acceptance of candidates
  • With the Director of Education Programs, coordinates in planning and facilitating the initial summer core courses in language and literacy development, collegial coaching and adult learning, and literacy assessment 
  • With the Director of Education Programs coordinates in planning and facilitating clinical practica
  • Annually collects, analyzes, and reports to the Director of Education Programs on all formative and summative assessment data
  • Submits data and data analysis to state accrediting agencies when appropriate
  • Participates in department meetings and activities as appropriate
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of current literacy and related research and its practical application in K-12 academic settings.
  • Master’s degree in education; CT literacy certification; graduate work in special education, educational psychology, and educational assessment preferred.
  • Multiple classroom and literacy experiences 
  • On-going assessments and tutorial services for students with learning challenge
  • Literacy leadership, including collegial coaching
Knowledge | Skills | Abilities
  • Knowledge of the art and current science of K-12 literacy instruction
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and mandates such as the Reauthorization of IDEA (2004) and Scientifically Research Based Instruction (Connecticut’s Response to Intervention model)
  • Familiarity with the current Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals
Special Work Schedule Requirements Full time work for five weeks every summer plus a range of 8 to 16 hours per month August through June.
