Overview Under the direction of the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Budget Analyst is responsible for managing the annual budget development process, implementing the approved annual budget, tracking budget to actual variances and developing forecasts.

Essential Functions
  • Develops annual budget development calendar.

  • Prepares and distributes annual budget development materials to departments.

  • Manages and maintains the budget system. 

  • Prepares and publishes for distribution, the college annual budget consisting of, but not limited to the following:

    • Proposed Budget Document

    • Approved Budget Document

    • Individual Department Operating Budget Documents

  • Develop and maintain position control system.

  • Prepares ongoing financial projections for current and future fiscal years. Provides information and make recommendations to the Vice President for Finance and Administration regarding current and future budgets. 

  • Distributes monthly budget vs. actual reports to departments.  Reviews variances with budget managers as necessary.

  • Evaluates and develops improvements in operations, procedures, policies, methods and reports related to the operating budget.

  • Communicates budget policies and guidelines clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Performs various financial analysis projects.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years financial experience  higher education or similar field

  • Comprehensive understanding of best practices related to higher education budgeting

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail

  • Demonstrated analytical skills

  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, google docs, spreadsheets, database applications and Colleague

  • Strong interpersonal skills; team player with positive attitude

  • Ability to multi-task, work under stress, and understand complexities of the institutional finances

  • Ability to communicate well with administration, faculty and staff

  • Integrity, punctuality, dependability, reliability, flexibility

Education Bachelor’s Degree in accounting related field required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to develop, learn and apply office routines and academic policies and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, google docs, spreadsheets, database applications; experience with Data Tel Colleague helpful.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; team player with positive attitude.

  • Ability to multi-task, work under stress, and understand complexities of federal and state regulations as they relate to financial aid disbursements.

  • Ability to communicate well with a diverse student body as well as parents, administration, faculty and staff.

  • Integrity, punctuality, dependability, reliability, flexibility.

Special Work Schedule Requirements Full-time exempt position.
