Solidarity Walk

Solidarity Walk Event

The Albertus Black Student Union, Multicultural Club, and Campus Activities Board teamed up to commemorate the final day of Black History Month with a Solidarity Walk at Celentano Field. Members of the Albertus Community walked the track while connecting and reflecting on the contributions and sacrifices of Black Americans in history.

Time: 12:30-2:00PM
Description: This 4-part series of workshops was in collaboration with Welcome 2 Reality, a CT based organization focusing on media literacy and cultural awareness.
Moderator: Dr. Joshua Abreu
Featuring: Welcome 2 Reality
Part 3 of the series focused on mental health within the Black male populations. The facilitators provided an overview of Black males’ experiences navigating the mental health system as they attempt to address years of trauma that manifest within their families and communities. A conversation followed the presentation where instructors discussed supporting mental health within their capacities as educators, advisors, and community members.

Cultural Roundtable

Time: 5:00-6:30PM
Description: Students learned about the connections of individuals from the African diaspora. Albertus students, staff and alumni shared their diverse BIPOC cultures and experiences in a roundtable format. Attendees were able to ask questions and provided comments to engage in the roundtable discussion.

Navigating Race Relations

Description: An interactive workshop was facilitated by Rooting for Tarzan on developing a greater understanding and ability to navigate race relations.
The workshop was facilitated by Michael A. Jefferson author of Deo Vindice: The Resurrection, and Robert Pellegrino, author of I See Color. They have made it their mission to examine and challenge the racial socialization process of blacks and whites in American society.
