| Overview |
The Student Success Counselor will serve as the contact person for “at risk” undergraduate
students at the New Haven and East Hartford campuses. He/she will assist in the development
and implementation of student success plans; working with academic/faculty advisors,
faculty and staff and assist them in identifying and assessing the resources necessary
to support their continued academic, personal and professional development.

| Essential Functions |
- Serve as an active member of the Retention Committee.
- Track student attendance and Academic Alerts.
- Teach first year introductory course designed for at risk students.
- Serve as student liaison to the business office and financial aid.
- Expand community access to resources in the Greater New Haven area.
- Work closely with the counseling center and career services to provide programming
and/or referrals for at risk students.
- Meet with students on a self-referral or faculty/staff referral to help resolve academic
and life issues and provide appropriate referrals when needed.
- Plan evening workshops to introduce students to campus resources including The Academic
Success Center and the library.
- Complete additional tasks and training as assigned.

| Qualifications |
- Two years previous experience in one or more of the following: academic advising,
student recruitment/retention, related student services or any equivalent combination
of experience/and or education.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, utilizing correct grammar;
- Experience with standard Word, Excel, calendar and email programs;
- Ability to work autonomously and confidentially;
- Ability to set/attain goals and follow through with projects.

Master’s Degree required.

| Special Work Schedule Requirements |
Evening and some weekend hours required.
