As Albertus Magnus College closes its historic Centennial year and steps boldly into its second century, the College will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of events honoring the culture, faith, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

Recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), Albertus Magnus College is committed to cultivating an inclusive community that celebrates diverse voices and experiences. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month observance, held September 15 through October 15, will feature opportunities for the campus and greater New Haven community to gather in celebration, reflection, and dialogue.

“This Hispanic Heritage Month is a vital opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, voices, and traditions that make our entire community stronger,” said Dr. Rosa Rivera-Hainaj, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. “This month matters to all of us because honoring diverse histories enriches our collective story and deepens our shared understanding. It is a time for everyone to come together, embrace our diversity, and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and lasting connection across our campus and the greater New Haven community.”

Hispanic Heritage Month Community Mass

Details: The College community will gather for a special worship service featuring bilingual prayers, readings, and hymns celebrating faith and culture.

Panel - An Immigrant Church in a Changing City: Catholics in New Haven in the 20th and 21st Centuries

Date: Monday, September 21, 2026

Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Location: Behan Community Room, Albertus Magnus College

Details: A panel discussion exploring the historical and evolving role of immigrant Catholic communities in New Haven. Moderated by New Haven City Historian Michael Morand, the conversation features Senator Martin Looney discussing the Irish immigration experience, Frank Carrano sharing insights on the Italian immigration experience, and Caprice Taylor Mendez speaking on the Latino immigration experience. Ésta Isla Film Screening

Founded in 1925, Albertus is a coeducational Catholic College in the Dominican tradition. Albertus’ values- and liberal arts-based education is recognized by external rankings such as US News & World Report, Money, and The New York Times, and has been named a Top 10 Military Friendly School. For ten consecutive years, at least 95% of Albertus graduates have attained employment or gone on to graduate studies within six months of completing their degrees.
