General Operations & Contact

Frequently asked questions regarding Public Safety locations, contact information, and campus authority.

Where is Public Safety located, and how do I contact them?

Location: West Side of Dominican Hall
24/7 Emergency Line: (203) 773-8509
Email: publicsafety@albertus.edu

Note: For off-campus emergencies, dial 911 immediately.

Are Public Safety officers police officers?

Officers are non-sworn and do not hold full arrest authority. However, they carry full authority from the Board of Trustees to enforce campus policies and state regulations on private property.

The college maintains an active partnership with the City of New Haven Police Department (NHPD), including an on-campus NHPD officer for crime deterrence.

Vehicle & Parking Policies

Frequently asked questions regarding campus parking permits, guest parking, driving rules, and enforcement.

Do I need a parking permit on campus?

Yes. All students, faculty, and staff parking on campus must register their vehicle with Public Safety and display a valid college decal on the lower driver-side front windshield.

Where can guests park?

Guests must register with Public Safety to obtain a Visitor/Guest pass. Student guests are restricted to parking in the Tier Lot, while faculty/staff guests may park near the building they are visiting.

What are the key driving and parking rules?

  • Campus Speed Limit: 15 mph.
  • 490 Prospect St. Residents: Parking spaces are limited and awarded via a specialized lottery system prior to move-in.
  • Special Parking: Valid handicap permits are required for designated accessible spaces. A dedicated, purple-painted Purple Heart space near Aquinas Hall is reserved for decorated combat veterans.

What triggers ticketing or towing?

Vehicles parked in fire lanes, near hydrants, on grass, in Rosary Circle, or in unauthorized parking lots are subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Amassing 5 or more parking/moving violations places a vehicle on the "Chronic Violator" list, resulting in the loss of campus parking privileges and automatic towing.

Emergency Notifications & Communication

Frequently asked questions regarding the Emergency Alert System and the LiveSafe mobile app.

How does the Emergency Alert System work?

Students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled. In emergencies, the college broadcasts alerts via text, email, and phone calls. Systems are tested once per semester. Ensure your mobile number is updated in college records.

What is LiveSafe and how do I use it?

LiveSafe is a free mobile safety app monitored by Public Safety. It allows students to report suspicious activity with photo/video attachments, request a Virtual Escort from friends/family, view campus maps, and contact emergency services directly.
