Press Release

Albertus Magnus College will celebrate Albert Week 2026 from November 11–18, honoring St. Albert the Great and embracing the Dominican Pillars of Study, Prayer, Community, and Service through a week of campus traditions, service initiatives, spiritual reflection and community engagement.

A highlight of this year’s celebration will be Dropping Into the Present Moment, a hands-on contemplative art workshop on Monday, November 16. Moving beyond the traditional lecture format, the experience invites participants to slow down, quiet the mind, and explore a meditative approach to watercolor art as a way to cultivate presence, reflection and connection with the Divine.

There will be an evening session at 5:30 p.m. in the Behan Community Room of the Hubert Campus Center that will be open to the community. Space is limited to approximately 15–16 participants per session, and advance registration is required. To register for the workshop, please RSVP here.

Facilitated by Maureen E. Carey, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Social Work at Molloy University and practicing artist, and Katherine Patterson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Education and Human Services at Molloy University, the workshop introduces participants to the accessible practice of “dropping color.” Using specialized watercolors and high-quality watercolor paper provided for the session, participants will place colors on the page and observe the movement, merging and flow of water and pigment.

No previous art experience is necessary. The workshop is designed to offer participants an opportunity to be fully present, reflect and explore how intentional moments of stillness can bring us peace and help prepare us to serve others.

The workshop reflects the Dominican understanding that living one’s faith is essential to sharing it with others. In a fast- paced world, the intentional practice of pausing and quieting the mind can help foster authentic presence, deepen reflection and strengthen our capacity to serve our communities.
