Cool today. Here tomorrow?

Prepare yourself for “above the line” executive positions in today’s constantly changing media landscape by majoring in communications at Albertus Magnus College. With our blend of traditional liberal arts course work and practical experiences, you’ll gain the foundations, skills and ethical perspectives you need to be a productive member of society and successful in your career. As a communications executive, you are the decision-maker and gatekeeper who creates and influences media, holds both technical and integrative skills in the field, and can work with and manage many different types of people.

Through concentrations, sequences and general courses at AMC, you’ll explore broadcasting, film and video production, performance media, advertising, public relations, sports media, film studies, organizational communications, writing and photojournalism.

Whether you’re ready to pursue a clear career direction or you’re curious and interested in a range of possibilities, you can individualize your program, sample a variety of topics, find your niche, develop your focus and enhance your best mix of talents and passions. You’re also setting the stage for graduate study in fields that range from communications, broadcasting, journalism, media and law to business administration.

In AMC’s small classes, you benefit from the personal attention of our professional faculty who like to get to know you and want to see you succeed. They share the ongoing work of their own specialties, expect an active exchange of views with you and encourage flexible perspectives about options for your future.

Internships expand upon what you learn in class by taking you into workplace situations that can help you build your career network and enhance your personal career goals. You may find yourself at sites such as ESPN, New York City advertising agencies, Good Morning America, American Red Cross, New Haven’s Channel 8 television and local newspapers, advertising agencies and public relations firms. In addition, AMC’s own Act 2 professional theater offers opportunities for acting and dramatic production as it readies you for auditions at regional theatrical outlets such as the Yale Repertory Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre and the Shubert Theater.

With your portfolio of print and/or non-print materials or the final thesis you may choose to research and write, you’re well positioned to apply to graduate schools and demonstrate your academic and experiential knowledge to potential employers.

You may also study for a minor in communications.
