Message from the Director

From its beginnings, the Dominican tradition was animated by a commitment to both the search for truth and the need to push boundaries for the sake of this truth. At the Order’s founding, St. Dominic envisioned a community of preachers that would venture outside the cloistered monastery and teach the people in the streets of their own cities. In his writing and his work, Meister Eckhart exemplified this creative commitment to seeking and sharing truth. He urged his listeners not to let rigid practices or ways of thinking get in the way of their contemplation of God and service to God’s people in the world.

Albertus Magnus College and its sponsoring congregation, the Dominican Sisters of Peace, continue this tradition by providing students with the opportunities of a liberal arts education and engaging the New Haven community in dialogue and service. Through the Meister Eckhart Center for Catholic and Dominican Life, we hope to deepen this commitment further through programs that promote contemplation, dialogue, action, and community relationships.

Whether you are a student, faculty or staff member, or member of the New Haven community, we hope that our programs give you resources, inspiration, and occasions of dialogue to help you cultivate your own practice of the Dominican pillars of study, prayer, community, and service
