Albertus Magnus College Adds Graduate Organizational Leadership Degree
Albertus Magnus College introduced its popular Master of Arts in Leadership program five years ago to provide participants with a foundation for effective leadership in an increasingly diverse and pluralistic society, leadership that is rooted in service to others. Based on the success of its first Leadership program, the College now has added the Master of Science in Management and Organizational Leadership (MSMOL), which has a strong business focus, to its mix of graduate programs for working adult professionals.
“This is a program that will appeal to those individuals who aspire to the management and leadership of corporations and businesses,” says Dr. Howard C. Fero, associate professor of management and leadership, and director of the Leadership programs at Albertus Magnus College. “Students will deepen their understanding of the ethical, social, behavioral, economic and organizational skills so crucial to the successful management and leadership of large and small corporations and businesses today.”
Fero notes that while there are some similarities between the College’s two Leadership degrees, the MSMOL program is strategically focused on “those who need to acquire and develop the analytical skills to enable them to make more effective contributions to the workplace.”
Eight-week courses are presented in an accelerated, fully-blended format, meeting for 2 ½ hours on-ground each week; classroom discussion is continued and supplemented with on-line assignments. The MSMOL program is offered at the One Long Wharf campus of the School of New Dimensions in New Haven and at its quarters at 111 Founders Plaza in East Hartford. All on-line sessions are asynchronous, accessed by students at their convenience.
“We design our courses to fit the needs of adult students in today’s workplace,” says Fero. “We make it convenient, and we make it work for them.”
Among the courses are Critical Thinking and Applied Decision Making; Organizational Behavior; Managing Quality; Entrepreneurial Thinking: Innovation and Creativity in Creating Value; and Management within a Global Environmental. In Managing Quality, for example, students will explore the theories, concepts and best practices of managing quality; topics will include Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, lean principles and agile processes. In Management within a Global Environment, the focus is on the unique problems and prospects of cultural diversity in international business.
