Albertus Magnus College Opens Renovated Field

New Haven—The Albertus Magnus College community will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a new turf surface at the Celentano Athletic Field on the Prospect Street campus at 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, rain or shine.

With the renovation of the field, the College, an NCAA-Division III school, will expand its athletic program to include women’s and men’s lacrosse. In spring 2012 lacrosse will be a club sport, with intercollegiate competition beginning in spring 2013.

“Completion of this project, which began at the end of May, signals a new era in athletics for the College,” says Dr. Julia M. McNamara, president of the College. “The entire Albertus community is excited by this addition to the campus.”

Expansion of the field includes a new walking track for use by the College community and by members of the New Haven community who have enjoyed the track for many years.

In keeping with the traditions of Albertus as a small community, everyone at the College will have the opportunity to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Albertus Magnus College, founded in 1925, is a Catholic College in the Dominican Tradition. It offers traditional undergraduate programs, accelerated undergraduate programs for working adults and graduate programs. The College has a total enrollment of 2,000 students.
