Men's Basketball Ranked 16th in Top-25 Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 28, 2012) – The Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team received a No. 16 rankingin this week’s Top-25 Poll. This is the fourth-straight week thatthe Falcons have been ranked among the top Division III teams in the country.With their new ranking, the Falcons drop one spot from where they stood a weekago.

During play last week, the Falcons swept its Great NortheastAthletic Conference Tournament opponents as the Falcons won all three contestsby an average of 30 points per game. In the GNAC Championship game, the Falconsdominated play and came out with an 88-54 victory over Anna Maria in front of acrowd of over 900 spectators.

Albertus is currently on a 22-game win streak as the Falconsstand at 27-1 on the year. The Falcons’ 27 wins mark both a program and GNACrecord in wins in a single season.

Hope College remained the top team in the country for thefourth-straight week with a 26-1 overall record. Amherst and MIT round out thetop-three teams, while Middlebury was ranked fourth.

The Falcons will head up to Middlebury College for the Firstand Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Albertus will take on Saint Joseph’sCollege of Long Island on Friday, March 2 in a 5:30 p.m. match-up before Middleburyhosts Morrisville State at 7:30 p.m. The winners of those two contests willface off on Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The Top-25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches,Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and ispublished weekly.
