NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 8, 2012) – The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team has been ranked 12th in the Northeast according to the first Division III Regional rankings of the season, which were released on Wednesday evening.
The Falcons sit in the 12th spot based on their 20-1 overall record prior to last night's game. On Tuesday night, Albertus downed Trinity College 85-73 in non-conference play to improve its record to 21-1 on the year.
In league play, the Falcons are 15-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while they have also won 16-straight games since their only loss of the season on Dec. 6 to Medgar Evers. Amherst is the top team in the Northeast with a 20-2 overall record. Middlebury and Rhode Island College round out the top-three teams as Middlebury has posted a record of 20-1, while RIC is 16-4.
Western Connecticut State University stands as the number four team in the region with a 17-4 showing on the year with wins over WPI as well as Rhode Island College. The Falcons defeated the Colonials by a score of 107-88 back on Nov. 22 in a non-conference match-up in New Haven. It was WestConn's only loss in their first 14 games of the season.
Tuesday night's game at Trinity was the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Falcons as they head to Boston on Saturday to take on Lasell in GNAC play. That contest is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
