NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 15, 2012) Ė The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team has been ranked 10th in the Northeast according to this week's Division III Regional rankings.
The Falcons moved up two spots from last week's rankings as they held a 22-1 overall record heading into their Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up against Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night.
Amherst remains the top team in the Northeast as they have a 22-2 overall record, while Middlebury also held its position at No. 2 with a 22-2 showing on the year.
Western Connecticut State University moved into the No. 3 spot this week with a 19-4 overall record. On Nov. 22, Albertus cruised to a 107-88 non-conference victory over WCSU in New Haven, one of the Falcons' four games in which they scored over 100 points. In that contest, the Falcons held an 18-point advantage at intermission and never gave up the lead to the Colonials. That game marked the only loss for WCSU in its first 14 games of the season.
Albertus jumped ahead of Becker College in the rankings as the Hawks also fell to the Falcons during the regular season. On Jan. 5, the Falcons traveled to Leicester, Mass. to take on Becker in non-conference play and left with a 74-65 victory.
After Tuesday night's win, the Falcons are a perfect 17-0 in GNAC play and are 23-1 on the year. The 23-win tally ties the Albertus Magnus record in single-season victories as the Falcons finished 23-7 in 2009-10. Albertus has won 18-straight games since their only loss of the season on Dec. 6 to Medgar Evers.
Albertus will play in its final regular-season game on Saturday, Feb. 18 as the Falcons host Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The Monks are 17-7 on the year and are second in the GNAC standings with a 13-4 league record. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
