NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 28, 2012) – Senior Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) have been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Third Team. The honors mark the first for both Falcons after they led their squad to a 14-12 showing on the year.
The Falcons produced their most successful season in the last eight years as their 14 regular-season wins marked the most for the program since the 2003-04 season when they finished the year 16-11. The Falcons, led by first-year head coach Steve Schuler, also opened up the 2011-12 season with a4-0 record; the best start in program history.
Carrero, who led the Falcons with a 16.9 points per game average, tallied 440 points on the year along with a team-best 99 assists. The sophomore started all 26 games for the Falcons as she shot a team-best 45.2-percent from the floor and 83.2-percent from the free-throw line.
The sophomore was named GNAC Player of the Week once, on November 28, and was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll twice as well. On the year, she posted nine games with 20 or more points, while recording one double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists against Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Feb. 18.
Brown averaged 15.7 points for the Falcons during her final year with the program. She played in 24 games and averaged 31.2 minutes per contest. She was tagged as the GNAC Player of the Week twice and earned a spot on the honor roll once as well.
Brown led the Falcons with an 8.2 rebounds per game average as she finished the season with a team-best 196 boards.
As a senior, she registered six games with 20 or more points, including a career-high effort at Emerson when she tallied 36 points and eight rebounds.
