NEW HAVEN, Conn. (January 31, 2012) – Albertus Magnus men's basketball senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) has earned multiple weekly honors for his efforts during last week's competition. On Tuesday, Askew was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week and was selected to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.
Askew picks up the ECAC as well as GNAC accolades for the first time this season, while it is the second time this year he has been named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.
The Hamden, Conn. native led the Falcons in a 3-0 showing last week with 84 points and 37 rebounds. The senior scored 31 points on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Mount Ida as he became only the second player ever in Albertus men's basketball history to record over 2,000 points.
Askew also recorded his third-straight double-double with his 31-point effort, while he added 11 rebounds in the Falcons’ win over the Mustangs.
On the week, he shot 53.4-percent and recorded six steals and four blocked shots. He had 30 points and 11 rebounds against Lasell on Jan. 24 and then 23 points and 15 rebounds at Emmanuel on Jan. 26.
As of Jan. 31, Askew has recorded 2,025 points as well as 1,088 rebounds in his career. He is 209 points shy of the Albertus men’s basketball record of 2,234 set by Tim Russell '05.
The Falcons are 18-1 on the year after a 40-point win over Suffolk on Monday night. They are also a perfect 13-0 in conference play heading into the month of February.
