BOSTON, Mass. - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to announced its administrative award winners for the 2011-12 academic calendar year. Presented annually to members of the GNAC, the three recognized honors are Executive of the Year, Sports Information Director of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year. All award winners were nominated by someone from within the conference and then voted on by their peers.
Executive of the Year- Brian Curtin, Saint Joseph's College (ME)
As the Monks Athletic Director, Curtin oversees the 17 varsity and two clubs sports up in Standish, Maine. During the past year, the Monks captured a GNAC championship in Men's Soccer while seeing 100% of participating sports qualify for GNAC tournament play under Curtin's leadership.
Sports Information Director of the Year - Kristen DeCarli, Albertus Magnus College
In just her first year at Albertus, the Falcons SID made the transition from UConn look seamless as she took over last summer and jumped right into the action. DeCarli helped publicize one of the most memorable Men's Basketball seasons in GNAC history in which the Falcons went a perfect 18-0 in conference play.
Athletic Trainer of the Year - Chris Troyanos, Lasell College
A 25-year veteran of the field, Troyanos oversees the Lasers Athletic Training staff which provides the highest quality of care to the Laser student-athlete population. In addition to his duties at Lasell, Troyanos has also served as the medical coordinator for the Boston Marathon for the past 25 years.
"Brian, Kristen and Chris are three outstanding candidates for their respective awards," said GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh. "They come highly recommended by their peers and embody the GNAC philosophy of Community, Integrity and Sportsmanship."
Commissioner Walsh will present the 2011-12 GNAC administrative award recipients with their plaques at the 2012 Professional Development Seminar on August 8.
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is an NCAA Division III conference made up of 13institutions with nine associate members. In 2012-13, the GNAC will sponsor championships in 17 sports for men and women. The GNAC also enjoys outstanding professional partnerships with Children's Hospital Sports Medicine Division, Doubletree Hotels, Fenway Printers, New Balance, Reading Trophy and Presto Sports.
