Curriculum

The curriculum is composed of nine required 3-credit courses, plus two 1-credit courses (there are no electives in the program, outside of the customizable individual and team capstone assignments within the designed courses) and a 4-credit Capstone course, that are all housed within three conceptual sections: (1) Concepts for Understanding Leadership and Organizational Character; (2) The Practice of Leadership in a Pluralistic Context; and (3) Imagining and Affecting the Future & The Capstone.

These courses emphasize the development and enhancement of participant’s skills and qualities in the inclusion and diversity, relational, empowerment, and common purposes elements of the leadership process. Courses in this cluster will explore the uses of both quantitative and qualitative research designs in explaining and understanding issues related to diversity, human resources and conflict resolution.

Students may register for courses in whatever sequence they choose with the exception of the following: Students entering the program will begin their studies with Leadership in Practice (LDR 500); this 3 week course introduces learners to some seminal theories of leadership and to the online component of the blended program.

When students are approximately 2/3 of the way through their coursework they will take LDR 600, a 1 credit, 3 week course titled Team Building and Leadership, which is where they begin to conceptualize the capstone project and develop project teams.

Students will complete their studies in the Master of Arts in Leadership by finishing their coursework with LDR 604, Strategic Leadership in a Changing Society.  This is where their capstone project is completed and formalized. Each module a rotation of courses will be offered so that participants can complete their coursework in 2 years.
