For years the history books had it
wrong. According to the official death toll, San Francisco’s “Great
Quake” of 1906 claimed 476 lives, but nearly
100 years later new research says the earthquake left
at least 3,400 people dead. Why the discrepancy? Did
the city benefit from the distortion of fact? True
stories like this illustrate the close relationship
between history and political science.
A major in history or political science is an excellent
preparation for graduate school OR for work in a variety
of fields: teaching, business, civil service. law,
journalism, library science, and archival work.
